Roster News Roundup: May 7, 2023

The Stanley Cup Playoffs are in full swing but that doesn’t mean the NHL is devoid of offseason roster news. There has been a steady stream of teams signing prospects, as well as a trickle of extensions for players that should be regular NHLers next season. Let’s take a look at some of the more notable transactions since the end of the regular season.

Are The Calgary Flames Unlucky?

The Calgary Flames have underperformed expectations this season. The loss of Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk in the offseason certainly hurt, but they came out of the summer with a roster that was widely expected to be playoff worthy and possibly even a contender. They haven’t lived up to that billing though and, with 13 games left on the schedule, they sit outside the playoffs chasing a wild card spot.
