Team Roadmap: Calgary Flames – December 13, 2022
Yesterday, I looked at the Calgary Flames 22/23 season performance and roster profile. We saw a team that looks like a potential contender this season and left off with the question of how the Flames can maximize their roster for a playoff run this season. Today, we’ll dig into that question and look at team needs and possible targets to upgrade their roster.
Pacific Division Snapshot: December 11, 2022
We’re now a third of the way through the regular season. The standings are beginning to stabilize as we get past the early season streaks. I last checked in on the Pacific Division in mid-November and the landscape looks much the same today as it did a month ago. Let’s take a closer look at the updated projections and how each team has performed over the past month.

Our last Pacific Division Snapshot was taken in late October with just a couple of weeks of regular season action in the books. A few weeks later, we’re starting to get a much better picture of how teams are performing this season.

With two weeks of regular season games in the books, we’re starting to see if teams are performing how we expected. Sample sizes are still small though and while some early performances are sustainable, it’s far from a universal truth.

We took our last look at the Pacific Division on July 20, two days before the biggest trade of the salary cap era rocked the NHL. Training camps are underway and, while teams still have some final roster decisions to make, we have a pretty good idea of what each team will look like this season. Team Synopsis: Calgary Flames – September 20, 2022
The Calgary Flames had the most tumultuous offseason in recent memory. Can their re-tooled roster avenge a disappointing end to the 21/22 season?
Player Prognosis: Jonathan Huberdeau – August 2, 2022
Entering the 2022 offseason with one year remaining on his current contract before hitting unrestricted free agency in 2023, Jonathan Huberdeau became one of the largest trades in recent NHL history. With Matthew Tkachuk looking for a new home for the long term, the Florida Panthers dealt Huberdeau to the Calgary Flames to acquire Tkachuk.
Player Prognosis: Matthew Tkachuk – August 1, 2022
An RFA with just one year left before qualifying for unrestricted free agency, Matthew Tkachuk informed the Calgary Flames that he would not sign a long term deal in Calgary. The Flames moved quickly, finding a deal with the Florida Panthers to salvage some value from Tkachuk after losing Johnny Gaudreau for nothing earlier in the offseason. Tkachuk is set to start a new chapter in his career next season after signing an 8 year deal with the Panthers.
Pacific Division Snapshot: July 20, 2022
The free agent frenzy is now in the rearview mirror. A majority of this year’s crop of unrestricted free agents have found home for next season and RFA season is now upon us. Let’s take a look at how the Pacific Division landscape has changed since my last snapshot prior to the opening of free agency.
