I’ve shared parts of it over the past few weeks but the reality is, there’s a lot left and I can’t possibly summarize all the connected storylines succinctly in a series of posts. Hopefully, the previous posts in the series have given an idea of the type of storylines that can be followed within the trade web. On June 29, 2016, the NHL landscape was shaped by three massive transactions over the span of 23 minutes. The last of those transactions was Steven Stamkos deciding to stay in Tampa Bay and signing a long term extension. The first two were trades.

Devils Add Timo Meier

The New Jersey Devils added Timo Meier to their roster on Monday, via a trade with the San Jose Sharks that involved 13 players and picks. A 26 year old pending RFA, Meier was the the prized target of the trade deadline and his addition to the Devils roster is clearly a boon for their playoff aspirations this season. When we scratch below the surface, however, it’s clear Meier’s addition fits well within a longer term vision.

Metropolitan Division Snapshot: December 18, 2022

Today’s division snapshot focuses on the Metropolitan Division. I last checked in on the Metro in late November when the New Jersey Devils were in the midst of their historic win streak. The top of the standings have tightened up significantly since then. Let’s take a look at how the Metropolitan landscape has evolved over the past month, with data including games played up to December 17.
