Metropolitan Division Snapshot: September 27, 2022

We took our last look at the Metropolitan Division in mid July after the dust had settle from the free agent frenzy. There was a trickle of additional moves through the latter part of the summer that shifted the landscape slightly. There are still a few roster decisions to be made with training camps underway, but let’s take a look at how the division is shaping up for puck drop on the regular season.

The landscape has changed since my initial look at the Metropolitan Division during the 2022 offseason. With the entry draft in the rearview mirror, which teams have made early offseason moves to change the division outlook. Below, we’ll take a look at how each team’s outlook for the 2022-2023 season has change between my initial offseason snapshot and the end of the NHL entry draft.

Ousted in Round 2: What Happened?

In this post, we’ll take a look at the playoff performance of the teams ousted in the second round of the 21/22 playoffs. The postseason gives us incredibly small sample sizes, where puck luck and hot and cold streaks can really have an impact. I’ve already looked at the teams ousted in round 1, so the focus in this post is the four teams that lost out in the second round.

Biggest Surprises of the 21/22 Season: Point % Edition

We’re now well into the 21/22 NHL season and teams have generally settled into a pecking order in the standings. Some teams are performing as expected. Others are not. Let’s take a look at which teams have been the biggest surprises relative to the model projections so far this season in terms of overall performance.
