The Ottawa Senators have had an inauspicious start to the 2022/23 season. After a busy offseason that saw them add players in what looked like an attempt to power out of their rebuild, they went into the Christmas break well back in the wild card race.

What a difference a month can make. I last checked in on the Atlantic Division in early November. The Sabres were rolling. The Maple Leafs were reeling. Early season trends that were unstainable have faded away and we’re getting a better picture of how the Atlantic is shaping up through a little more than a quarter season.
