Team Synopsis: Carolina Hurricanes – January 6, 2023

I last looked at the Carolina Hurricanes during the preseason. They were one of the NHL’s best 5v5 teams last season and they looked ready to replicate that this season. They’ve been on a tear of late, with their loss to the Rangers on Tuesday ending an 11 game win streak and 17 game point streak. Let’s take a look at their performance this season, with data from games played through December 31.

Today’s division snapshot focuses on the Metropolitan Division. I last checked in on the Metro in late November when the New Jersey Devils were in the midst of their historic win streak. Metropolitan Division Snapshot: September 27, 2022

We took our last look at the Metropolitan Division in mid July after the dust had settle from the free agent frenzy. There was a trickle of additional moves through the latter part of the summer that shifted the landscape slightly. There are still a few roster decisions to be made with training camps underway, but let’s take a look at how the division is shaping up for puck drop on the regular season.

Metropolitan Division Snapshot – July 9, 2022

The landscape has changed since my initial look at the Metropolitan Division during the 2022 offseason. With the entry draft in the rearview mirror, which teams have made early offseason moves to change the division outlook. Below, we’ll take a look at how each team’s outlook for the 2022-2023 season has change between my initial offseason snapshot and the end of the NHL entry draft.

Ousted in Round 2: What Happened?

In this post, we’ll take a look at the playoff performance of the teams ousted in the second round of the 21/22 playoffs. The postseason gives us incredibly small sample sizes, where puck luck and hot and cold streaks can really have an impact. I’ve already looked at the teams ousted in round 1, so the focus in this post is the four teams that lost out in the second round.
