Today, we’ll look at another complete thread in the Jeff Petry Trade Web by following the Taylor Hall for Adam Larsson trade thread through to it’s current state.

Taylor Hall Thread
In Parts 1-4 of this series, we followed a number of origin threads together chronologically before they started to tie together. The Taylor Hall thread appeared during the 2016 offseason with the 1-for-1 trade between the Oilers and Devils. It’s the only trade in the thread thus far.
We pick up the trail of the Taylor Hall thread again in December of 2019, in the final season of Hall’s 7 year deal he had signed in Edmonton. The Devils got plenty of production from Hall during his time in New Jersey and he won the Hart trophy in 2018. However, a slow start to the 2019-2020 season had the Devils thinking about their longer term future. On Dec 16, 2019, the Devils traded Hall to the Arizona Coyotes along with Blake Spears for a futures package that included Nick Merkley, Nathan Scharr, Kevin Bahl, a conditional 2020 1st round pick and a 2021 third round pick.
The trade also tied the Hall thread in with the Martin Hanzal thread, which we saw the origins of earlier in the series. The Arizona Coyotes had selected Kevin Bahl with the 2018 2nd round pick that they acquired when they traded Hanzal to the Minnesota Wild at the 2017 trade deadline.
The Devils selected Dawson Mercer with the 2020 1st round pick they acquired in the Hall trade. They traded the 3rd round pick to the Washington Capitals in exchange for Jonas Siegenthaler at the 2021 trade deadline, making another connection to the web. As we saw in the earlier posts in the series, Siegenthaler was drafted by the Washington Capitals with a 2nd round pick that had changed hands 3 times and was first traded in the original Jeff Petry trade, when Petry was traded from the Oilers to the Canadiens.
The Capitals flipped the 3rd round pick they received for Siegenthaler to the Rangers at the 2021 draft, as the Rangers traded up to select Ryder Korczak. Washington added a 5th round pick to their arsenal in the process and drafted Brent Johnson and Dru Krebs.
Adam Larsson also moved on after the 2016 trade between the Oilers and Devils when the Oilers left him exposed in the Seattle expansion drafts. Larsson was a pending UFA in the summer of 2021, but the Kraken selected him in the expansion draft and signed him to a new deal before he reached UFA status.
