While there were plenty of rumors circulating this past week surrounding some potential big offseason moves, there were very few actual roster moves around the NHL. With roughly a month until the expansion draft, this isn’t a surprise and the moves we did see may even be targeted to filling out rosters to meet the expansion draft requirements. Let’s take a look at the most notable moves from the past week.
Best UFA Addition
We don’t have many options to choose from this week. While a number of teams were busy signing prospects, the San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars both brought back one of their UFA forwards. Both were depth signings, but the Sharks get the edge for the best signing with a larger projected impact to their 2021-2022 point projection and a lower cap hit. Matt Nieto returns to the Sharks for two years at a cap hit of $850k and will help fill out their bottom six forward group.
Biggest Splash
It’s clearly been a quiet week when the largest contract handed out comes with a $1M cap hit. The Stars re-signed Blake Comeau for 1 year and he will provide forward depth next season.
